Tuesday night March 28, 2017 the Monastery of the Risen Christ monks and oblates organized a fundraiser to support our monks at New Camaldoli Hermitage in Big Sur California. The Prior Father Cyprian Consiglio performed a wonderful concert from his vast collection of compositions, which are available on his various Cd collection recorded for Oregon Catholic Press.
The audience was moved to prayer and meditation as the concert evolved, which Father Cyprian’s comments on the Gospels.
At the end of the concert there was a standing ovation for him. It is hoped that everyone will continue to serve others as Jesus taught and witnessed in their own lives, as the music created by Father Cyprian’s Lenten themes inspired.
Following the concert there was bread and soup supper prepared by Mrs. Jackie Boato from St. Rose Parish in Paso Robles and the bread crosses baked especially for this occasion were a very much enjoyed. Many of our Oblate community helped with serving each person’s soup. Wonderful table decorations were created and donated by Adela Miles with a Lenten them. Mary Maloney helped a great deal with publicity and the assembly of flyers and posters, which were distributed in the diocese of Monterey and that of Fresno California. We want to thank Louise and Gabe Quiroz for taking tickets and doing accounting work and many others who donated to the silent auction which also generated monies at the soup supper.
The prior and monks and staff at New Camaldoli Hermitage were very grateful to receive the donations, which will help cover some of the expenses due to 3 months of lost income there due to the road closure of US 1, which continues.
