On May 19th we had the Oblation profession at our monastic chapel during the Eucharistic liturgy of Davida Delis and Louise and Gabe Quiroz and were welcomed warmly by our Oblate chaplain Father Stephen Coffee and Prior Daniel Manger and the local Oblate community members here in San Luis Obispo. The liturgy and profession were followed by a wonderful pot-luck luncheon for all present who attended this joyful event.
Also, Brother Axel Bayles, a monk from our General Council in Italy was the presenter on the Pathway to Silence retreat on Yoga & the Jesus Prayer, which was well attended from May 25th & 26th. Brother Axel gave rich presentations on both ancient Hatha Yoga tradition with praxis and the development of the Jesus Prayer tradition based on his deep knowledge of Evagrius of Ponticus and how each practice utilizes the physical, mental and spiritual intelligences within a person to come to deeper centering of silence, in order to listen to God in the Holy Spirit and Christ. We were truly blessed by Brother Axel’s ministry of joy and insights of his own practice and study. We hope he will return in the future to give yet another retreat here at the Monastery of the Risen Christ.
